Grade Four Habitat Unit
This project began with an idea to merge scientific research in the library with an animal sculpture in it’s habitat created in art. In 2010 the fourth graders worked with Ms. Sherriff in the library to create the media piece of the project, namely the slide presentation. Students learned so much about their chosen endangered animal. We teachers saw the enthusiastic work of the students so we decided to do it again.
The students read, researched and wrote about the animal they chose to make out of clay. Then they came to art with a packet of information to help guide the making of the clay animal and the habitat background painting, bringing pictures and written descriptions.
Well, here we go again! The animals are currently under construction, but you can click here to see what is coming. This Friday they will complete the sculptures and get them fired in the kiln. Stay posted for more pictures of this fun project.
With so much help from Ms. Sherriff, let me introduce you to this year’s 2011 Endangered Animal Unit!
Endangered Animal PowerPoint Final
Last school year all of the animals in their habitats were displayed at ART CONNECTIONS 2010. It made the show so spectacular! See each classes research shown in Power Point slide shows under “Slide Shows.ppt”.
Can you name the six habitats that we studied?
